Abstract:
Objective :To investigate the clinical significance of the micrometastases in bone marrow in patients with gastric cancer and to clarify the relationship between VEGF and micrometastasis ingastric cancer.
Methods :Nficrometastases in bone marrow was tested in 80 patients with primary gas-tric cancer using an immunocytochemical assay. Also, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) ex-pression was examined by EL,ISA.
Results :The micromatastases in bone marrow were related to depthof invasion, peritoneal dissemination and liver metastasis. Patients with positive micrometastasis inbone marrow had a higher VEGF positive rate (77.8%, 21/27) compared to negative micrometastasis pa-bents (43.4%, 23/53).
Conclusions :The micrometastases in bone marrow are closely related to clinicopathological factors and VEGF in patients with gastric cancer, thus playing a key role in prediction for the prognosis of gastric cancer.
